How club Elo works

Elo converts match results into a single strength number: beating a higher-rated side earns more points than beating a weaker one, and the margin of victory matters. It updates after every finished match, so the table tracks a club's actual current form rather than a season-long points total that can lag a hot or cold streak. The same rating feeds the win probabilities in our match model.

Comparing clubs across leagues is harder than comparing clubs within one — most of a club's fixtures are domestic, so cross-league calibration leans on the relatively few shared reference points: European competition (Champions League, Europa League, Conference League) and clubs that get relegated or promoted between two of these leagues. That is a thinner signal than a league table built from a full round-robin, so read the cross-league gaps here as indicative, not exact.

Ratings are content-only on this page, but they are the exact numbers the model reads when it prices a match, so this is a window into how it sees club strength.
